Kick off your weekends right this September: join Brooklyn Music School for a series of live, outdoor, "happy hour" concerts on three Fridays this month.
Faculty from the venerable neighborhood institution -- who are musicians and bandleaders in their own right -- will entertain with jazz standards and new material at a fabulous Fort Greene location, 7-Corners. And if you have musical chops, you're invited to jam along with them!
A longtime faculty member and professional musician since 1976, Jeff Newell's instruments are the sax, flute and clarinet, and he is the Wind and Jazz Departments Chair at BMS. Jeff has diverse musical tastes that run from blues and jazz to early 20th century classical and rock, and he has played and/or recorded with such jazz notables as Charles Earland, Houston Person and Terrance Blanchard. On teaching young musicians, Jeff says, "I work to demystify music for my students, helping them perceive it as another language of human communication." You don't want to miss a jam session with Jeff!
We are thrilled to present this music series in partnership with Brooklyn Music School, a Fort Greene community institution since 1912. Learn more about their programs and classes on their website: www.brooklynmusicschool.org.
